We believe that family is the most important thing in a persons life.  That is why we have kept this business within the family.  We all take a part, from helping with weaning, to feeding, and then helping to package and deliver your meat.  Jim and Glenda Hanna own the company, and the rest of us, their children, help out.  On any given day you will see one of us working on the farm.  It is a family business through and through.

Jim Hanna, owner and founder of Mountain Shadow Natural Beef, is the fourth generation of Hanna beef farmers to live in the Dufur area.  The tradition started with his great-grandfather Walter Chester, who moved here with no money to his name and preceded to work his way up to owning and raising cattle.  His son, Walter Verne, and grandson Walter Louis wanted to continue the tradition.  Verne was eventually awarded the Wasco County Livestock Association’s “Cattleman of the Year” Award in 1957.  Since that day we have strived to raise quality beef for public consumption.
